The Ontario Greens have introduced their ‘Grow Ontario Plan’ aimed at bolstering the province’s vital food and farming sector, which contributes $50 billion to the economy and employs over 875,000 individuals. Party leader Mike Schreiner emphasized the importance of supporting rural communities and protecting farmland, which is being lost at an alarming rate of 300 acres daily. With a focus on food security and sustainable growth, the plan seeks to ensure that farmers receive the necessary resources to provide high-quality, locally grown food while addressing housing needs without encroaching on prime agricultural land.
