Feeling Less Safe? You’re Not Alone
Crime rates are rising, public safety concerns are growing, and trust in government institutions is at an all-time low. From unchecked corporate influence to failing public safety policies, Oakville residents are paying the price for years of mismanagement. Meanwhile, our leaders prioritize political games over real solutions. How did we get here, and what can we do to take back control of our community’s safety and governance?
How Political Failures Put Our Community at Risk
Liberal (2013-2018) Inaction Left Communities Vulnerable
For years, the Liberal government failed to invest in the resources needed to keep our communities safe. Despite rising concerns about crime and public safety, they failed to expand community-based policing, mental health crisis response teams, and local crime prevention programs.
Instead of strengthening protections for vulnerable residents, they allowed corporate donors and lobbyists to dictate policies, leading to decisions that put profits over people. Their inability to rein in misconduct among public officials eroded trust in government institutions and left Ontario communities without the leadership they deserved.
The PCs’ (2018-Present) Cuts and Alleged Corruption Have Undermined Public Safety
Rather than reversing these failures, the Conservative government doubled down on short-sighted cuts and corporate giveaways. His administration defunded essential community safety programs, undermined police oversight, and prioritized developers over the needs of everyday Ontarians.
The leadership’s refusal to support proper funding for mental health crisis response teams has left law enforcement stretched thin, forcing them to act as first responders for complex situations they are not trained to handle. Instead of ensuring transparency and accountability in governance, The current government has been plagued with corruption scandals and ethical violations, making it clear that political elites are more interested in protecting themselves than the people they serve.
Oakville’s Public Safety is Spiraling Out of Control
Rising Crime and Public Safety Concerns: Violent crimes, home invasions, and car thefts have increased in Oakville, leaving residents feeling less secure in their own neighborhoods.
Failure to Invest in Mental Health Support: Without adequate mental health crisis response teams, individuals in distress often face delayed or inappropriate responses, putting both themselves and the community at risk.
Erosion of Trust in Government: Scandals, ethical breaches, and backroom deals have become the norm in Ontario politics, leaving people questioning whether their leaders actually have their best interests at heart.
Lack of Accountability in Public Safety Spending: While Ford’s government claims to prioritize safety, funding for proactive crime prevention programs, community policing, and social support systems remains woefully inadequate.
The Green Plan to Make Our Communities Safer
The Ontario Greens have a plan to restore trust, safety, and transparency in our communities.
- Expand Community Policing & Crisis Response Teams: We will increase funding for mobile crisis response teams, ensuring that trained mental health professionals respond to crises instead of overburdened police officers.
- Strengthen Government Transparency & Ethics Laws: We will introduce stronger anti-corruption measures, expand oversight for public officials, and restore trust in government institutions.
- Support Crime Prevention & Community Programs: We will increase funding for youth programs, addiction recovery services, and violence prevention initiatives to address the root causes of crime.
- End Corporate Influence in Politics: We will ban corporate and union donations to political campaigns, ensuring that policies are made for the people, not wealthy donors.
- Protect Public Spaces & Build Safer Communities: We will invest in well-lit public areas, expanded transit safety measures, and community-driven safety initiatives to make Oakville’s streets safer.
By prioritizing safety, fairness, and accountability, the Ontario Greens will restore trust in government and make Oakville a safer place for everyone.
The Same Broken Promises Won’t Keep Us Safe
🔵 The PCs Have Undermined Public Safety. Instead of investing in crime prevention and mental health support, Ford’s government has cut essential services and enabled corruption at the highest levels. His refusal to properly fund community safety initiatives has left Oakville residents paying the price.
Ford’s government has actively weakened oversight mechanisms that hold police and public officials accountable, reducing transparency and increasing distrust in law enforcement. Meanwhile, his administration’s close ties to developers have led to policies that prioritize private profit over community safety, leaving neighborhoods underserved and vulnerable. If re-elected, The Progressive Conservatives will continue to prioritize corporate donors over public safety, doubling down on cuts that undermine Ontario’s security.
🔴 The Liberals Have a History of Failure. Their years in power were marked by underfunding for key public safety programs, ineffective governance, and corporate favoritism. They allowed problems to fester instead of taking decisive action, leading to the crisis we face today.
The Liberals repeatedly failed to address growing crime rates and public safety concerns, leaving communities without the necessary tools to protect themselves. Their negligence in ensuring adequate funding for emergency response services led to dangerously long wait times for police and crisis response teams. Their inability to enact meaningful reforms to tackle systemic issues in governance resulted in a legacy of inefficiency and broken promises. A return to Liberal leadership would only mean more of the same failed policies.
🟠 The NDP Lack the Leadership to Make Real Change. While they claim to support safety reforms, the NDP has failed to provide clear, actionable policies to address Ontario’s crime and governance issues. Their inability to hold government accountable when in opposition raises serious concerns about their ability to lead effectively.
The NDP’s platform lacks concrete plans to address crime prevention and ensure that public safety initiatives are adequately funded. Despite advocating for reforms, they have consistently fallen short in delivering results when given the opportunity. Their failure to push for real change when it mattered most suggests that they lack the leadership and strategic planning necessary to tackle Ontario’s safety crisis. Without a bold and decisive plan, the NDP remains an unreliable choice for those seeking real progress on public safety issues.
✅ That leaves one choice—the Green Party of Ontario.
Unlike the others, we aren’t beholden to developers, lobbyists, or the status quo. We are the only party committed to ensuring that Oakville’s safety is a priority, with investments in real solutions—not empty promises.
This election, don’t vote for more of the same failed leadership. Vote for the only party that puts people before politics. Vote Green—the only true strategic vote.
